TAIJIQUAN
is being practiced by millions of people worldwide.
It is thought in public squares and gyms or martial art schools.
Within Chinese communities one often can see people gathering in the morning and in the evening to perform a sequence of slow and meditative, synchronized movements, which may remind us more of an act of dance rather than of a martial art.
In fact Taijiquan (t'ai ch'i chuan/ tai chi chuan) is a martial art, what many don't know. Nowadays most people are practicing it only for its health benefits, thus only learn a small part of this art.
exercises, proper posture, and simple movement sequences but later one will realize, that in Taijiquan there is a depth of knowledge that goes beyond simple physical exercise routine.
Taijiquan gives you the power to seek harmony between mind, body, and spirit. As one learns more and more about Taiji (t'ai ch'i / tai chi), one learns more and more about oneself. Gradually one works through old patterns of thought and emotion, and eventually will be able to recognize and transcend its limitations.
The physical aspect of training includes strength, flexibility, balance, speed, agility, posture,
alignment, healthier organs, better digestion, healthy metabolism, stronger bones, reduced inflammation, better breathing, etc.
The mental training cultivates inner peace, awareness, freedom, and understanding, compassion and loving kindness.
Many come to Taiji for health, or for fitness, or for relaxation, or for peace of mind. Others come to Taiji because they are seeking an effective means of self-defense.

The first part of the name "Taijiquan" refers to the philosophical concept of Yin and Yang, the second part "quan" means literally fists or martial art but can refer also to a simple exercise routine.
We can say, that Taijquan has evolved over a thousands of years, out of philosophy, medicine, meditation, and martial traditions.
Presently there are 5 main styles being practiced and they are named for the person or family who developed them. They were usually handed down from father to son or to other relatives.- Chen style
- Yang style
- Wu/Hao style
- Wu style
- Sun style
The core element of Tai Chi training is taolu: the solo "form". Other elements include qigong&nìgong, tuishou, sanshou, weapon training, martial applications, and more.
It can be learned by people of all ages!!!
I hope, that for the moment, the above written text, gave you a brief overview and short idea about what Tai Chi is. I will write more about the subject on this page for those who have interest in this martial discipline. Enjoy reading and hopefully practicing.
Peace and Love...... and Patience :)
